About
Cross Campus Queer Network – the combined collaboration of each of the WA University Queer Collectives and their supporters. The CCQN works together with University Guilds, community and activist organisations (both Queer and non-Queer) to provide representation, advocacy, support and activism for all GLBTTIQ students in Western Australia. This group is for any WA student that identifies as an individual of diverse sexuality or gender, including (but not limited to) Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Genderqueer, Transgendered, Transsexual, Intersex, Queer, Questioning and Queer-friendly supporters are also more than welcome.
The CCQN began in 2006 and is now in its fifth year. Ever since queer departments and young queer voices began emerging on campus there has been a growing sense of unity which has culminated in the current representation of sexuality and diversity for the queer students at our universities. The Cross Campus Queer network is a social, political, academic and representative collective of queer students working towards safety and acceptance. There is now a sense of unity between the campuses and actions toward equality like never before.
The frontier is always changing, whether we are campaigning for a suitable equity space, or joining the rest of the population in the fight for same sex marriage rights. The CCQN is the collaborative body which organises as much as it can for the well being of all things queer and diverse at University campuses. It makes sense to check it out, I mean its run by students for students and we’re getting more organised every day, so look out world!
This year CCQN is taking on hosting duties for the national queer student conference Queer Collaborations. This conference has a 20 year history which began at the University of Sydney and this year it continues at Curtin University. With help from the community, resources provided by the University and a constant effort from student volunteers from the various queer departments and those with their own arbitrary interest in QC, the conference for 2011 is already taking shape. This task is likely to be the major focus of the CCQN campaign in 2011. So if you hear people murmuring about QC, it’s the national conference we’re in the process of putting together.
